  • Objectives
Kolkata Symphony Orchestra is an orchestral ensemble which focuses on promoting and popularizing western classical music in India. The orchestra has fifty plus musicians, with Sanjib Mondol, as the Founder and Conductor. KSO provides a platform for developing local young talents to achieve higher levels of musicianship and acquire professional skills in the field of Western Classical music. KSO aspires to provide artistic leadership, reach new performance standards and produce an ambitious and wide-ranging program, both on and off the concert platform. Through the means of using the universal language of music, KSO strives to further its commitment of preserving tradition and promoting cultural exchanges between the East and the West.
  • To make a distinctive contribution in promoting Western Classical music in India – evangelize classical music and engage with contemporary culture by embracing new work through a vivid presentation.
  • To organize concerts collaborating with acclaimed musicians.
  • To provide a development platform for young musicians so that they become self-sufficient, when they choose music as a career.
  • To organize workshops and a training platform for musicians thru which they can interact with musical personalities worldwide.
  • To promote young talents and student musicians who do not always get an opportunity to perform in front of an appreciative audience.
  • To provide financial assistance to needy musicians so that they are able to sustain themselves.
  • To grant and pay for awards, stipends, examination fees and scholarships to deserving needy music students.
  • Provide a comprehensive outreach and development program firmly embedded in KSO’s core objective of reaching out to youth and other groups who do not have ready access to quality musical experiences.
  • To reach out through music to not-so-privileged communities and to people living in difficult conditions - taking music to hospitals, underprivileged schools and old-age homes.
